Preschool Program Update

Dear Preschool Parents,

The Belvedere Planning Commission granted a temporary use permit to the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church on Tuesday, March 18. This allows us to operate out of St. Stephen's Church until August 29. Samantha and I are now preparing the location for a visit from licensing which we hope to accomplish by Wednesday, March. 26. If all goes well, we can resume the preschool program on Monday, March 31.

We will operate as usual Monday to Friday from 7 AM to 6 PM. This will include spring break during the week of April 7. We will also be operating a summer program starting June 16. However, there will be some weeks that St. Stepehen's will not be available for the summer program. There will be no preschool summer camp on July 3 and 4. Camp will also be closed during the weeks of August 4 and August 11. For the week of July 7 to 11, the summer camp will be open only from 7 AM to 12 Noon.

We mailed out enrollment packets to all preschool families last week. If you did not receive one, please call us at 381-2243. Please fill out all the paperwork necessary to replace your child's file that was damaged in the fire and submit the forms by March 28. Your child will not be allowed to return unless their file is complete.

More information will be sent by e-mail during the week. Please call us with any questions at 381-2243.

Thank you so much.

Cristy

How to Help Young Children Cope with Trauma
If you are seeking information on how to help your child cope with trauma, like the fire at BTCCC, Sabra Inslicht, one of our BTCCC mothers, was kind enough to request the following brochures from the Red Cross for us.

The following links will take you to the Red Cross brochure, "Helping Young Children Cope with Trauma," in English (just cut and paste the link into your browser, if it doesn't go automatically).

http://www.redcross.org/services/disaster/keepsafe/childtrauma.html

Other languages are available at:

http://www.redcross.org/services/disaster/0,1082,0_504_,00.html

The Red Cross also recommended another publication on disaster preparedness, and in particular the fire section.

The fire prevention and safety module, which is at:

The entire publication is at:

The Red Cross also reminds us to check our smoke detectors and fire extinguishers at home. This will help children feel safer.

After-School Program Up and Running!
The after-school program resumed operations today. We are reminding parents to call or e-mail the day before to cancel attendance for the next day. Parents can call the usual 435-4366 number which forwards to a cell phone we are using on site. Please submit the forms for your child's file as soon as possible. If you need the forms, email belvederetiburonchildcare@gmail.com.

Monthly Invoicing
Today, March 3 would have normally been a billing day. Our accounting system is not operating yet so billing for the month of March will be delayed. Kindergartners to 2nd grade will be billed for the full month of March. Preschool families will not be billed until operations resume. Since BTCCC was unable to provide child care services to Preschoolers, Kindergartners, First and Second Graders for the week of February 25, the BTCCC will credit 25% of their February monthly tuition.

Preschool Program Update
We continue to look for an alternative location. Different locations have been looked into but nothing has worked out for one reason or another. We are checking into a couple of more possibilities this week and we will contact preschool families when we have more definite news. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please call us at 381-2243 and let us know. Please be sure to make child care arrangements for this week and next week, the week of March 10.

Looking into the Future
We are looking for a preschool location that can house us through the end of August. Once we have found an alternative location, we intend to offer a summer program for the preschoolers. A summer program for the school aged children will be offered at the Bel Aire Site.

The BTCCC intends to rebuild and resume regular operations by the beginning of the 2008 school year.
